New Kayak Dock at Port Ludlow Marina

Recreational kayaking is a beloved Pacific Northwest activity. In 2014, over 13 million people paddled kayaks to both explore and relax upon beautiful waterways. But did you know there are many health benefits associated with kayaking? It is a low impact activity that can improve cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility.

So the next time you’re at the Port Ludlow Marina, make sure to check out the new kayak dock installed in late November 2015.

Shoreside Marine built the 28”x 60” dock to accommodate kayaks, rowing shells, and sailing dinghies.  Tike Hillman was the consultant on the project. Hillman is no stranger to Port Ludlow or the Marina. He helped build the first phase of Port Ludlow Marina in the late 1960s.

The new kayak dock is ADA approved and complies with agency regulations for light penetration. Light penetration allows for fish to hide from their natural predators. The dock’s racks are built from Cumaru wood – similar to teak, and the dock’s side decking is built from Port Oroford cedar – often found along streams.

Need a place to keep your kayak? The Marina has racks available to rent for $20/month. Many of Port Ludlow’s kayaking residents enjoy keeping their kayaks at the Marina for easy access to Ludlow Bay.
