Northwest Maritime
The Welcome Center is the gateway to the Northwest Maritime campus and a hub of activity. Whether you’re a curious traveler or a local enthusiast, the Welcome Center is your go-to destination for learning not only about the rich maritime heritage and culture that defines our area, but also about NWM’s activities and programs across the region, and how you can get involved! Step inside and discover exhibits catering to all ages that share the history and traditions of Port Townsend’s maritime legacy, as well as maritime culture and activities today.
Get on the water (virtually)! Pilot a ship into Seattle’s Elliott Bay or under the Golden Gate Bridge and experience what it’s like to drive into a storm as you don the role of captain in our state-of-the-art Pilothouse Ship Simulator! The simulator is a destination for commercial pilots to train to safely steer a commercial ship into ports across the West Coast. On Saturdays during the summer, you can take an interactive tour to get a behind-the-scenes look at a professional mariner training facility and experience it first-hand as you navigate through a person-overboard drill. Summer Saturday tours are free and first come, first serve. All ages are welcome.
