Fresnel lenses were a true game-changer in the 19th century\, revolutionizing lighthouse technology and helping to keep countless sailors safe at sea. Restoring the original lens and putting it back into service is a beautiful way to honor that history — and to keep the legacy alive for generations to come.\n\n\nAs Jeff Gales\, Executive Director of the USLHS\, put it:\n\n\n\n\nLighthouses have served as critical navigational aids and symbols of safety throughout American history. Returning this Fresnel lens to service represents our commitment to preserving these historic structures and their technological innovations for future generations.\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat’s Happening at the Celebration?\n\nWe’re pulling out all the stops to make this a fun and festive day for the whole community! SUMMARY:PLPA: Barbra Lica Quintet
DESCRIPTION:Barbra Lica’s voice first drew widespread attention when she placed first runner-up at the Sarah Vaughn International Jazz Competition in 2013. That signature sound now has been the centerpiece of seven albums\, mostly of her original music\, and countless tours and jazz festivals from Tokyo to Montreal. Bright and vibrant on one song\, breathy and lilting the next\, Lica varies the mood\, from light and funny to heartfelt and heartbreaking. In addition to her own piano-playing\, depth is provided by her touring partners on bass\, guitar\, keyboards and drums. An appealing performer who enjoys opening up to her audiences\, the Toronto-born artist hasn’t slowed down in the studio\, either. Her eclectic 2024 album of jazz\, folk\, pop\, and rhythm and blues – Impostor Syndrome – earned two nominations from the Canadian Folk Music Awards.

DESCRIPTION:Safe to say\, after three decades and 4\,000-plus shows\, The Paperboys are musical icons of the Pacific Northwest. The Celtic folk band that singer-songwriter-guitarist Tom Landa founded in Vancouver\, B.C.\, in 1991 now incorporates bluegrass\, Mexican and zydeco – to name just a few influences – in its notoriously feel-good show. They have produced 10 albums\, written scores for movies and tour periodically across Europe. But the six-member ensemble mostly has a reputation among its devoted Northwest followers as simply a great\, live band. Fronted by Landa\, Geoffrey Kelley on flute and guitar\, and Karissa Landa on fiddle – all three providing vocals – The Paperboys have been critically acclaimed in music magazines on both sides of the border\, as well as on NPR and the CBC. But Port Ludlow will feel like a hometown show.

Saturday will wrap-up with Long Story Short\, a storytelling party at Finn River. On Sunday we ask “Who do we need to become as a community to meet this moment?”. Through presentations and workshops we will explore how we can come together as a community to prepare ourselves for climate resilience. Sunday will wrap-up with a free community meal hosted by Chef Arran Stark and the team at Jefferson Healthcare!

DESCRIPTION:With The Wardens\, it’s all about the stories. Yes\, they are musicians\, but band founders Scott Ward and Ray Schmidt\, as well as fiddler Scott Duncan\, have been employed in the national parks of Canada for decades as\, yes\, wardens. These real-life stewards of the land have written songs\, mostly in a country/western style\, that chronicle their adventures in the wilderness. Whether the stories be about a daring rescue mission or a humorous encounter with a bear\, what always comes through is their love\, appreciation and advocacy for the world’s natural wonders. They make it visual as well\, performing in front of a screen depicting their work environs and other enhancements to their storytelling. They’ve been recognized for their performing talents at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and have four albums to their credit. But shortly after a winter of concerts\, in the spring\, they will be heading back to work.
