At the Resort at Port Ludlow, we value and honor the delicious produce and products that Jefferson County farms provide. Some of our favorite local farms are Red Dog Farm, Finnriver Farm and Cidery, and SpringRain Farm and Orchard.

Have you eaten at The Fireside? Then you have experienced some of the delicious produce and ingredients our region has to offer.

All three farms have produce stands at the Port Townsend Farmers Market (Saturdays from April to December), the Chimacum Farmers Market (Sundays from June to October), and Red Dog and SpringRain both have self-serve, honor-system farm stands located on their farms.

For a truly unique grocery shopping experience, make sure to check out the farm stands located at Red Dog and SpringRain. Their refrigerators are stocked with seasonal, organic vegetables, berries, cut flowers, plant starts, and herbs. Not sure what to do with all your veggies? Look no further than Red Dog’s recipespage on their website – it’s loaded with a wide variety of recipe ideas like Tomato Zucchini Skilletand Chickpeas with Spinach, Leeks, and Smoked Paprika.

And don’t forget the freezer!

At Red Dog, the freezer is stocked with local goodies including jams, grass-fed beef from Short’s Family Farm, goat cheese from Mystery Bay Farm, eggs from FinnRiver Farm, and tamales from Mama’s Harvest. At SpringRain don’t miss out on local honey, grass-fed lamb, rabbit, and pasture-raised eggs.

Make sure to stop by Finnriver during blueberry season. There is nothing better than spending a summer afternoon leisurely strolling the property while picking organic blueberries by the pound.
All three farms are located in Chimacum and it’s best to check their Facebook pages to find out about the current offerings:

  • Finnriver – 142 Barn Swallow Road, Chimacum, WA 98325
  • Red Dog – 406 Center Road, Chimacum, WA 98325
  • SpringRain– 187 Covington Way, Chimacum, WA 98325

Visiting these farms are experiences you won’t want to miss and memories you will cherish.

T-37 Sailboat Races in the Port Ludlow Marina Ponds
Curious about the model sailboat races in Port Ludlow Marina Ponds?
They’re T-37 sailboats races put on by the Port Townsend Yacht Club. Racing these radio controlled boats is a fast growing activity on the Olympic Peninsula. The Port Townsend Yacht Club has grown their fleet to over 40 boats in the past three years! T-37 racing is worldwide but has a large concentration in Western Washington.
T-37 racing is inexpensive and great for both experienced racers and people who have never sailed before. Racers come from all over Jefferson and Kitsap counties and Seattle to participate in the T-37 races at the Resort.
Check out this neat video of a T-37 race at the Resort: https://vimeo.com/80170492
Interested in watching T-37 racing? Check out the club’s 2015 racing schedule to see when the races will be at the Resort.

Curious as to how the Club is performing? Below is the club’s latest scores from Race 4 of the Spring Series.

Kayaking Ludlow Bay
As the weather changes fun opportunities for leisure and outdoor exercise become available again. On your next free sunny afternoon head over to the Port Ludlow Marina to rent kayaks (or stand-up-paddle boards if you’re feeling adventurous!) and see Port Ludlow from a whole new perspective.

For $15/hour for a single kayak or $25/hour for a double kayak, the friendly and knowledgeable Marina staff will get you outfitted with life-jackets & oars and out on the water you go. First time kayaking? No problem. The staff will show you the ropes.

The sun sparkles on the water and the serene surroundings & sandy shores of Ludlow Bay will relax you immediately. Keep your eyes out for all the wildlife the area has to offer. Watch the blue herons fly past and otters swim nearby – you’ll never want to get off the water! If you’re lucky, you might just see the bay’s resident seal. The seal is friendly and has swam up to kayakers in the past – making for great memories and photos.

As you paddle out, you have stunning views of forest land, historic logging areas, Ludlow Cove Cottages, and of course the Marina and Resort. The perspective from the water will make you appreciate all Port Ludlow has to offer in a whole new way.

Just a short distance out of the Marina lays a beautiful cove behind two islands called “the twins”.  Make sure to take the trip and paddle back there. You won’t want to miss it! The peaceful cove is a great place to take a break, snap some pictures, and enjoy a snack. You’ll be amazed at how the time flies when you’re out on the water.

When you’re all finished kayaking, stop in at The Fireside for a meal and a glass of wine. Sit out on the back patio to keep enjoying the sights the Marina has to offer – from the beautiful, moored boats to otters playing on the docks, you’ll be looking forward to planning your next kayaking adventure at the Port Ludlow Marina.

Kayaking is a great outdoor activity for people of all ages – from families to corporate groups.  Before taking off, stock up on snacks and beverages in the Marina Store. Forgot a hat or sweatshirt? The Marina Store can take care of all your needs. For questions about kayaking, stand up paddle boards, and boat rentals contact the Marina at (800) 308-7991.
